Marketa WolfeMarketa Wolfe
, assistant professor of economics, was interviewed by S&P Global Market Intelligence for an article titled, “.” The article explores the impact of President Trump’s tweets on company stock prices. "We found on average the comments really do move the price," said Wolfe, who studied stock market reactions to the president's company-specific tweets with co-authors Qi Ge, assistant professor of economics at Skidmore, and Alexander Kurov of West Virginia University. "These findings raise the question of whether it is optimal for high-ranking government officials to communicate industrial policy pertaining to specific companies via Twitter where unexpected statements can potentially instantly create or wipe out millions of dollars in shareholder value," the study concluded.
