Jon Brestoff reported that Student Government Associations (SGA) Academic Council (AC) had drafted a response to the Writing Task Forces (WTF) recommendations and was presenting it for discussion this evening. Brestoff indicated that the draft was generally supportive of the WTFs recommendations and highlighted a few ideas for CEPP to consider. Brestoff also noted that AC and the SGA Senate had been invited to attend the October 20 CEPP open forum on the WTFs recommendations. Deb Hall reported that the Advisory Committee on International Study (ACIS) had met and discussed the National Student Exchange (NSE) proposal and had concerns about it. As a result, ACIS determined that it needs to be revised. Doing so will delay the NSEs campus visit, which was tentatively planned for December. Hall added that ACIS is considering bringing Doug Reilly to campus. Rielly is from Hobart and William Smith Colleges Center for Global Education and is the Assistant Director of the Partnership for Global Education. At this point, CEPP welcomed members of the Committee on Appointments, Promotions, Tenure (CAPT)John Berman (Chair), Mary Crone Odekon, Regina James, Mary Lynn, Peter Staketo discuss the rationale and possible procedures for tenure-track lines in interdisciplinary programs. A constructive dialogue ensued, during which CEPP and CAPT members carefully considered and debated the many intellectual, procedural, and political challenges of such a proposal, with an emphasis on the procedural.
