Video Editor at Cosmo Street Editorial
cosmostreet.com
Class Year of Child:2027
Occupation: Arts, Audio/Video Technology and Communications
After graduating from The College of William and Mary with a BA in Philosophy ('91) I put my degree to good use back in my hometown of NYC working for the Cuisenaire Company of America, helping to start their first desktop publishing department. I stayed there for several years, then left to freelance as a commercial photo retoucher and start teaching Photoshop at the Amalgamated Lithographers of America. All this time I was also playing drums for several bands, performing regularly.

Eventually the abundant retouching work began to dry up as more and more people learned Photoshop, and I knew I had to move on. I took a quick course in Avid's Media Composer and began doing some free assistant editing work to gain some experience. Then, through a remarkable case of being in the right place at the right time, I landed an entry level position at the company where I still work, over twenty years later. I learned everything about the commercial editing industry on the job, from an amazing staff at a truly great company.

Senior Manager, Donor Stewardship at Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
Career Advisor
www.nrdc.org
Class Year: 2011
Occupation: Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources
I entered 91 as a pre-declared Studio Art major and spent the first two years pursuing that degree, which was my lifelong dream. After taking an Environmental Studies class, I realized that I could learn about and make art forever, but I would never again have the opportunity to learn about the climate crisis at such a pivotal moment. After Graduating from Skidmore with an Environmental Studies major and Studio Art minor, I went to graduate school at Green Mountain College for my M.B.A. in Sustainable Business, one of the first of these programs at the time. Throughout graduate school and since, I have worked within or adjacent to the nonprofit sector in communications roles. There was even a five-year stint where I started my own nonprofit, which was later merged with a Cambridge, MA-based organization that I am currently on the Board of. Today, with over 10 years of experience in this field, I pride myself in working for one of the largest and most reputable environmental organizations in the world. I entered NRDC as a Donor Communications Writer and have since been promoted to Senior Manager of Donor Stewardship. As part of NRDC's larger Development department and Donor Stewardship team, I am responsible for strategizing and developing communications for our robust Major Gifts portfolio (donors $10k-$5M) that demonstrate gratitude and the impact of their gift. I work every day with some of the world's smartest scientists, lawyers, and policy advocates to deliver compelling messages that steward these donors as longtime supporters of NRDC and the various initiatives we work on. Whether it is renewable energy or deforestation, toxic chemicals, or offshore drilling, I play a role in telling the story and our solution, allowing me to apply the breadth of my education. Ultimately, fusing fundraising and communications is a sweet spot where I can harness my creative spirit and be an advocate for something I care deeply about, and I imagine there are many Skidmore students who this sweet spot would appeal to! Outside of work, I live close by in Galway, NY where my husband and I own and operate a no-till produce farm. +++++++++++++++++++

Recruiting Talent: Yes - I no not have the authority to hire, but if there are internships that I can bring information about, I will.
